The Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges- Red Cross Youth Council (CSPC-RCYC) conducted the Leadership Formation Course (LFC) and Basic Leadership Training (BLT) last October 17-18, 2011 at the Library Building of CSPC- Nabua campus.

With the three (3) dignified National Youth trainers, Mr. Christian Bermal, Mr. Elvis J. Lumame and Mr. Amiel G. Belza, the CSPC-RYC officers and committee directors and members undergone and completed the two (2) days training composing the Leadership Formation Course (LFC) and the Basic Leadership Training (BLT), two (2) of the components of the Leadership Development Program (LDP) of the Red Cross Youth. The first component, Youth Volunteers Orientation Course (YVOC) was already undergone by the council last August 31, 2011. Under the Leadership Formation Course (LFC), five (5) modules were discussed namely; the Concept of Man, Self- Awareness, Human Dignity, Human Development Concept and Organizational Concept. After which the Basic Leadership Training (BLT) with its five (5) modules namely: Communication, Values Clarification, Social Etiquette, Leadership and Team Building were equally distributed and assigned to the national youth trainers for discussion and practical applications.

The first (1st) day training started at nine o’clock (9:00) in the morning with a short program prepared by the trainers. The participants were encouraged by the trainers to lead the Red Cross Youth Pledge and Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and the Red Cross Movement followed by the presentation and discussion of the modules with the indoor activities under the Leadership Formation Course (LFC) and Basic Leadership Training (BLT). On the second (2nd) day, discussions of the modules were continued and the activity was highlighted by the Team Building Activity in the afternoon. The participants were divided in two (2) groups and obstacles were prepared by the trainers. The activity was a race which was competed by the two (2) teams aiming to build the leadership skills of one another, teamwork, unity and cooperation of the members of the team. The race ended eight o’clock (8:00) in the evening followed by the awarding of the Best Team and the Best Team Leader.

The said trainings aimed to develop the leadership skills of the participants and hone them in becoming a great leader who will provide humanitarian services under the organization’s framework. Also, it is a way to open the awareness of the members of the organization about the Fundamentals of the Red Cross Movement, its goals, objective and principles. The council envisions that the participants would understand better the importance of the humanitarian services rendered by the organization and the activity served as a means to encourage more Red Cross Volunteers who will provide humanitarian services in different activities of the Red Cross.

The success of this activity was made possible through the effort of the Council Development Committee Director, Mr. Bryan Deo Tataro and the officers of the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges- Red cross Youth Council (CSPC-RCYC) headed by Mr. Rodel Notorio.

The event mentioned was one of the requirements of the delegates and observers for the National Youth Congress to be held in Bukidnon on October 21-23, 2011.

Ninety four (94) level 3 students of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, along with the CSPC-RCYC Second year officers and committee, participated the 5 days training seminar entitled “First Aid in the Campus with Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)” on July 20-24, 2011, from 8 AM to 5 PM.


The training was sponsored by Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges - Red Cross Youth Council (CSPC-RCYC) under the supervision of Mr. Alvin Franco A. Agtarap and Mrs. Maria Visitacion M. Taburnal, both advisers of the council, in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross, Camarines Sur chapter.

The participants were divided into 5 groups, each group were assigned a pair of trainers for the lecture and discussion proper from days 1, 2 and 3 of the said training. During the fourth day, the trainers conducted a 100 item evaluation which was followed by the practical application of skills, knowledge and graded return demonstrations. The practical examinations were all about Emergency Transfer, Immobilization, Obstruction Management, Artificial Respiration and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, considering these as important measures in giving first aid.  On the fifth day, which was the final training, a fake vehicular accident was set by the trainers and re-enacted by the CSPC-RCYC officers and was responded successfully by the trained participants. The purpose of the simulation was to further assess and evaluate the participants as trained first aiders who have knowledge and skills and let the participants experience situational cases that First Aiders encounter in reality.







The results of the evaluation exam and return demonstrations were recorded as part of identifying participants who successfully passed the training and can be addressed as licensed First Aiders.

According to Mr. Notorio, CSPC-RCYC president, the mandate of the activity is to educate and train the student members with the skills and techniques in Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support with Adult CPR. This also served as foundation of the students as they practice their profession and can effectively be used during emergency cases.

Lecturers and trainers were: Mr. Leonil A Quiňones, Ms. Maria S. Atanacio, Ms. Monica L. Seňar, Ms. Maria Hajie A. Tugas, Ms. Liza Marie P. Mancera, Mr. Michael John B. Holloway, Mr. Benjamin Benedict A. Asence, Ms. Adeline P. Vargas, Ms. Jaymae Marie P. Jesalva, Ms. Christine D. Ramos, Mr. Eliseo F. Pangindian III, Mr. Rubenelle DLS. Panganiban and Mr. Willy Z. Santos.





At the end of the day, concepts learned by the participants during the discussion proper and the simulation were recapitulated which was followed by the closing program prepared by the CSPC-RCYC officers.

Villafuerte Hall, CSPC Multi-Purpose Building and the CSPC grounds served as the venues for the lectures and actual training.

As a prerequisite course for the level 4 students in the College of Health Care Technology, the Red Cross Youth Council had organized a four-day training course regarding Disaster Management under the supervision of Mr. Alvin Franco A. Agtarap - an Emergency and Disaster Management instructor.

Ninety-nine fourth year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Students apprehended and engaged in the Disaster Management in Nursing Course at the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges last June 9-12, 2011.

The fourth year Nursing students in the College of Health Care Technology participated to gain knowledge from Red Cross trainers who were invited to lecture about the said course.

Due to the vast numbers of participants in contrast with the number of trainers, the organizers and facilitators divided the population into two groups, which were then handled by the four trainers namely: Mr. Wilson, Mr. Marlon, Ms. Jasmine and Mr. Agtarap.






As an annual training ground, the Red Cross Youth Council aimed at providing the BSN level four students certain awareness about the different modules in the Philippine Red Cross Principles and discussions about Disaster Management and activities where they can help and participate in times of sudden events that have very unfortunate consequences – involving large-scale loss of life and property.  Teaching strategies were utilized and the students were able to express their ideas and concerns during activities.






The simulation regarding Disaster Management was on the last day wherein the students were assigned of their respective roles and functions.









The simulation was completed and the student rescuers were exhausted as they proceeded to the Discussion Hall. Student Leaders shared their comments and concerns regarding the Simulation. Shortly, as a part of the closing program, a presentation prepared by the Documentation Committee was presented. Finally, the program was ended with the acknowledgement to all the participants, facilitators, advisers, and especially the trainers of the Philippine Red Cross.
